Have you heard about the ceremony that the Mayans do with the Crystal Skulls?
Apparently every 1,000 years they nominate a grandmother for the ceremony and feed her a highly potent drink with psychedelics which allows her to leave her body and enter into the crystal skull which she occupies for 1,000 years. The mission to carry forward the knowledge of the ancestors, which can be taught to future generations of Shamans who can communicate with her when they enter into trance states.
This comes from a council of Mayan elders in Guatemala. It's believed by them that these skulls came from a very ancient civilization that pre-dates the Maya and they inherited the skulls and their use from that civilization.
