being mirrored...

On Sunday, Goom and I were kicking a soccer ball around in a park with a couple friends, when he came over pointing to a little girl who was crying because of a scratch she had received from a fall off her scooter.

He nudged me towards her.

“What? What do you want me to do?” I said gently, concerned for the girl even though she was being taken care of by her mother.

“I want you to go take care of her.”

“Why? Her mother’s there.”

“Because you take of everyone,” he said and then quickly went back to kicking the soccer ball.

I melted. There are moments as a mother when you question yourself. Wondering what kind of job you are doing. Hoping that even when you are tough, somehow they know it is for their greatest good.

A moment like this is an affirmation, that yes, you are doing things well.

He mirrored me in a most profound and unexpected way. I couldn’t ask for anything more than to be viewed as nurturing by my son; especially when I didn’t have a role model to learn from.

Stacey, that's beautiful, what a wonderful feeling you must have had from your son's words. He must think you have the magic touch that makes every boo boo better! Well done!

Those tiny moments that open our eyes are precious. I'm so glad you were able to see it.

Some people don't. :-)

I do not have children, but I think I can understand the sentiment here. One will always wonder whether one is doing things right; moments like these must be a wonderful confirmation that such is indeed the case.

I have always said and thought that one of the biggest responsibilities there are in life is to be a parent. With all one sees in the world these days, one can't help but wonder what went wrong and how the parents must feel like. It must bring a great comfort, to say the very least, when you have moments like this and see that they are taking the right path. Good for you. Good for Goom. *hugs*

This brought tears to my eyes. I am not yet a mother, but someday hope to be... However I know that my Momma was a wonder woman who, like yourself, would take care of everyone. What a sweet thing for your son to say and he probably didnt even realize it :)
